Just as the recent storm tore through the north-west the night before, Manchester City swept the visitors aside at the their home ground. It was a statement three goal win for their manager's side due to goals from Rebecca Knaak, Bunny Shaw and Hemp. It was a display that clearly signaled their leadership claims as they strengthened their standing at the top of the table.

Successive Setbacks for United

This scoreline signalled successive Women's Super League losses for Skinner's side for the maiden instance since May 2024, leaving them seven points off the table toppers with their trophy ambitions severely dented.

United’s capacity to balance league and European football with a thin squad has been a frequently analyzed topic since they qualified for the European competition. Looking at the fixture list, it always seemed this was the week that would truly test this fortitude.
