Toy Story 5 Trailer Sets The Beloved Duo Against a Digital Device
Exactly 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story movie debuted, establishing Pixar as a leading animation studio and introducing viewers to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a glimpse into the plot but leaving fans wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys
The preview reveals Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a latest plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a carnival and assisting giveaway items find good homes.
Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the insignia pinned to her outfit.
Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the toys.
